7 years ago, life seemed good. I had 3 young children, just moved countries, was adjusting to working full-time from home when...BANG! I hit an all-time low.
Looking back now, I can see how years of mental and emotional stress stretching back as far as my childhood had put me on a downward spiral for some time. But we manage, don’t we? We put up and shut up. Carry on as normal. This time was different though. I needed help.
Feeling overwhelmed, depressed, anxious and helpless, I turned to my doctor. She offered me the opportunity to take part in a trial 8-week mindfulness-based stress reduction course.
It wasn’t easy, but, bit by bit over the weeks and then months, I began to feel better. The tightness in my throat eased. That dizzy falling feeling subsided. My heart rhythm settled. I stopped crying.
Years later, I’m still a work-in-progress, but since then, I choose to take action every day towards maintaining good mental and emotional health, for me, for my family, and now, for my clients too!
